Connecting the VigorTalk
to your broadband router

  VigorTalk Adaptor for DrayTEL

Make sure you have an Ethernet socket!

The VigorTalk does not connect to your PC; the port on the back is an RJ45 Ethernet socket (sometimes referred to as UTP or 10/100BaseT). That socket connects, using the supplied RJ45 cable, to an Ethernet port on your broadband router, alongside your PCs. If you have a wireless LAN, your wireless base may also be your router, or it may connect to your router. The basic requirement is that in order to connect a VigorTalk, you must have an Ethernet socket for it (see picture, right).

The photo to the left shows some examples of different routers or wireless access points. Yours may look different, depending on your particular manufacturer. Of course, you probably won't have a stack of them like this!

If you're not sure if you have a router, or suitable Ethernet connection, check with an expert or the person who set up your network. Instead of a direct router, you might have an Ethernet port provided via some other means, which should be okay too as long as it provides Internet access.
